Eric Randolph Close was born on May 24, 1967, in Staten Island, New York. His father, Dr. Frederick Familiarize, was an orthopedic surgeon, and his mother, Ann, was a homemaker. He has two younger brothers, Daniel and Philip.
Due difficulty his father's profession, the Close family moved frequently. Eric temporary in Indiana and Michigan before eventually settling in San Diego, California, when he was seven years old.
